Hello out there! I need a critique on this animation; any thoughts you might have are welcome. I'm getting into finalizing-mode, so the more detailed and specific you can be, the better. A few notes: This animation is a little girl's dream of a ballerina. The ballerina will be composited onto a 3D background, and she is moving through 3D space, so that is why she gets smaller as she moves screen right. Also, she has a weird jump around frame 92-100, it will make sense in context, so just ignore it for now. With that in mind, I would like any and all critique-based feedback you can think of! Thanks!

These met with a rather negative reaction when I showed them in class today for critique... but people only got to see the linework this afternoon! Color improves an essentially flawed design, right? Right?

I tried to emulate Brittney Lee in the coloring of the birds we've got here:

This young villain has nothing to do with anything.

This is a picture of a friendly man, waving at the audience. A limp-wristed robot snuck up and started burning his hut while his back was turned. The robot is wearing a loincloth because I felt the image was too explicit otherwise. If my digital painting professor saw this his heart would probably break.

I saw a middle-aged woman staring most disapprovingly in my general direction as she bustled past me with a stack of books to check out...

So I followed her line of sight and found a kanoodling couple on the couch behind me:

Taking gesture drawing this semester has really exposed how little I know about anatomy! Because the gestures are so short, Ryan expects us to use a lot of our built-up knowledge and creativity to finish the sketch. So, here are a few anatomy studies! All of these drawings are based off of posemaniacs poses, except for the upper-left sketch on the second page, which was copied straight from a John Watkiss drawing of Tarzan that I thought was cool.

I'm sorry I haven't posted anything in a while family! I promise I have been hard at work on various school-things. Today was such a good day! (Except that Tom was sick and couldn't join our adventures) Me, Sam and Kimberly ate lunch at Brick Oven... such yummy, cheese-dripping pizza... then we took a trip to the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving point today and it was awesome! I think I could have sketched there all day. :)

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care...

I started with one Thanksgiving robot, a housewife-bot loosely based on my mom, and then I started thinking of all the other awesome Thanksgiving-Bots there could be and things got a little out of hand. Anyway, happy Thanksgiving!

So the idea behind this drawing was some sort of "rodent revolution." I don't know why I made it so violent - I guess I was thinking about the French Revolution while I was drawing, with all those rolling heads and killings and such.

Some Fun Textures!

In drawing for animation we worked on trying to show texture with different kinds of line. It was a difficult assignment, but I was really happy with the way my textures turned out! (Though the quality of the scanned image is fairly bad)

There are 15 textures total: wallpaper, leftovers of baked potato soup, a withered old hand, tiger fur, a close-up of a cheese grater, a crumpled paper towel, hair, wood, bread, an amoeba, clouds, concrete cracks, bird feathers, shark teeth, and leaves.

A Trip To The Zoo

I haven't been to the zoo since I was a tiny kid and my family would go to the Pheonix Zoo in Arizona, which was amazing. There really aren't any zoos in New Hampshire to speak of, but, after living here for around 12 years, we finally discovered and visited the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston! :D

I love lions.

This zoo was pretty nice, but it had a pitifully small area for the tigers. All the cats they had were either too sleepy/depressed to even look up, or they were pacing around their areas in a really agitated way.

The gorillas were so fun to watch! I think they were the happiest animals in the zoo.

My little brother is fun to draw because he's so lanky--he's got some fun proportions. Moreover, he often reads books holding very still.
This tree was one beautiful thing to draw. I love so many of the trees here. They're all plump and juicy since it's been so wet this summer.
My sister did some very patient head-modeling for me so's I could better understand the head. The lower right one gave me some trouble, but I like how sinister it turned out.
